Would a bad steering pump cause my brake pedals feel funny? Whining on idle and gets louder when I steering then when brakes are applied pedal feels like its pulsating? Is it ps pump or hydroboost?
System bled and brakes feel much better, steering pump whines a bit but tolerable. The fluid level was very low which caused the whole issue. Now the nex question is how to track down the leak? There's a lot of tranny fluid in the area and lots of hydraulic hose.
Most of the time it is the high pressure hose that leaks. It connects to the side of the reservoir. If it is the reservoir that is leaking you can change that but sometimes just better to get a new pump and all.
I wished I could suggest a good pump for you but I can't.I tried three A1 Cordones and finally ended up with a re-man(all you can get now)Motorcraft and it still whines some.
In the video he says watch for fluid spray when removing the drain hose. Is this from fluid left in the drain line(so pinch the end next to connection when removing) or from residual pressure on the pump side?

Left over fluid in the hose. When the motor turns off the system drepressurizes
A common leak point is where the pressure hose from the steering gear to hydroboost rubs against the shock tower. If it is not worn thru yet slide 4 or 5 inches of slit heater hose over it for protection. It is easy to get at thru the wheel well. Otherwise finding the leak may require a good cleaning first with Simple Green and your garden hose.
I too have to complete this procedure myself as getting the wife to come anywhere near my truck with the expectation of helping me work on it is just about impossible. Just a note for anyone else in the same boat, I put a piece of cardboard under each front tire so that way the steering goes from side to side much easier than on the driveway. My welder mounts just above my power steering reservoir so the whole procedure is not as easy as I had hoped for.

Just fiished mine, I only used about 2 quarts but I also used clear tubing so when it looked good I capped it off. Hope the pics show up. The welder is a 150 amp that mounts to the right of the stock alternator.
