Gutless when cold??

Title says it all.....when I drive away cold (just started) there is no power....barely moves itself along, no matter how far I push the peddle.

After like 1/4-1/2 mile, she runs fine and has it's power.....this normal? All filters good, glow plugs are fine and both relays (gpr and manifold heater) are switching on.....anything to check?

If you didn't know, diesel engines do run on heat ignition, there is no spark to fire the mixture. When you don't have heat, it runs poorly. Take it easy on the truck until the water temp gauge begins to move.

So what your saying is normal operation? I assume the glow plugs (since they cycle on and off after running) would provide enough heat to combust. Plugging it in isn't possible where I park for long periods.

Sounds like normal operation to me. I just moved into an apt and i can't plug mine in anymore and mine is the same way. After the temp needle starts to move it runs like normal.

The glowplugs only work to start the engine once it is started the are not needed.

Sounds like your ebpv is working to me. The pcm controls it when the air temp is around 45 degrees and the oil temp is around 165. I'll look for a thread that explains it better.

...but they do stay on well after the truck is started when it's cold - my newly installed GPR indicator assures me of that. Details of WMRiceMan's excellent idea can be found here.... https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/6...=glow+plug+led

As for poor performance when cold, it's a diesel thing!

It's normal, diesel engine doesn't like being cold, but then again niether do I so at least we agree with each other. If you don't have a remote start that may be something to look into warm it up 5 min before you go, then it runs fine.
