I'll have to look, somewhere i had a tutorial about the scineces behind building your own headers. Sounded like on anything where your looking for that extra bit of performance to come from your exhuast you were better off buying them or getting a real proffessional to do it. For run of the mill, driver it sounded like an okay idea to attempt yourself. Just buy a box or so of bends and a 3in air cut off and wirefeed and go to town.

That`s where I`m coming from Joe, nothing fancy or $$$, just to get the exhaust system quiet on the 53 M350 is all I want.

I made up a set of headers once.Rather than buy a kit I bought a used set from a swap meet for my engine but another application and then just cut off the pipes where they hit and then re-routed them a bit.It was a lot cheaper and easier than buying a custom set or getting a kit.

Not to me as I hate the sound of the exhaust thru cracked manifolds and I much prefer the purr of a Flattie with a nice pair of mufflers out the pipes.

I don`t think they make ramshorns for a 53 Flattie.

I cant stand leaky exhaust either. Seems like a few of my old late 80`s early 90`s trucks leak too.

Anyone know ehre to look for a do it yourself header kit? Sounds interesting.

i think what you're saying Fom is that you want to get rid of the obnoxious exhaust sound... not necessairily make it quiet... the screw is loud, but i think it sounds good...the '83 with its rusted off system is loud but it sounds nasty!!!
