Gem module PROGRAMMING?!!!

Gem module PROGRAMMING?!!!
my module fried on a 99 f150. Got the new one from ford today and inserts say it has to be programmed. Will it work without? The only thing I can think of is that it would need the odometer reading. I'm gonna slap it in tomorrow, guess if nothing else it just still won't work like the current one.

As Steve says.
The module is universal but only if programmed for the options the truck was built with.
2wd, 4wd, various interior options etc.
They will do one of two things, either extract the program out of the old one or program from a link to the data base that has your vin# and asbuilt factoy info.
