Rough Idle / Poor Perf until warm

I've had a few threads on this as the problem matures.

4 new injectors last week. Rough idle/perf ever since. Checked harness, oil levels, connections etc..etc.

On a normal morning start (50 degrees outside) since the new injectors are in I get a bad rough idle and crappy performance (like running on 4-6 injectors, struggles to reach 40 mph, bad vibration)

After seeing this now for a week and not figuring it out....I have more data. After about 12-15 minutes (every time) it kicks in and begins to run almost normal (about 90% of normal). I don't think the IDM / PCM suddenly got happy and I don't think a harness short suddenly got happy...it does this pretty consistently after 12-15 minutes each morning.

So...could this be an ICP sensor, a HPOP temp sensor or something else? No codes indicate this...all codes point to PCM or IDM. Like I said...truck was always running at about 90% before injectors so I could still have IDM / PCM problem but I'd like to solve this rough 15 minutes each morning first. Ideas?

Hey guys...I'm thinking this problem is related to oil temp or oil pressure in some way. Reliably kicks in and runs 'fairly' normal after it comes up to good temperature. Oil is new and correct level. I definitely have an ICP sensor that needs to be replaced (oil on sensor) but I don't think that is the root problem. Let me know if you disagree.

Two questions: First....does this sound like a High Pressure Oil Pump issue?

Second...did the 4 new injectors 'push the HPOP over the edge' and cause this probem to be more noticable on cold startup?

THANKS!

A diesel shop in Memphis put them in. Replaced 2,4,6,8. After replacement...runs same when warm....runs like crap when cold. If an injector was bad....would it suddenly start running ok after it warmed up a little?

I believe you are in Memphis correct? Oh well, I twittled my thumbs my last 4 days off and some minor truck BS. Still a haul.

At any rate, whoever is running your scans needs to start with a cold scan and compare every possible biased sensor item they can. From dead cold to during and after warmup.

At dead cold:

Barometric pressure Rationality check, all must be within 1.5 psi:
EBP, MAP, BARO (PCM)

Biased EOT sensor, all must be within 11*F
EOT, IAT, MAF, and regular outside thermometer.

We have discussed so much with your truck I cannot remember everything. I think EBV problem with what you describe except the stupid injector codes. Are you sure the valve is not malfunctioning? After testing, I would unplug the solenoid and make sure the valve is open. See what happens.

you could always pull that valve cover drivers side and recheck the wiring to make sure its all connected! its fairly easy!

id check this!

Unplug ICP sensor in the morning before starting truck and see if it runs any better during the cold time. By doing this your truck will be running on the default pressure maps, you will get an SES light but youll know that it is from you unpluggung the sensor.

If it runs better with the sensor unplugged then you need a new sensor.

My brother in law is having the exact same problem. he also gets a KAM error P0603. Once it warms up, all is good. I am going to check his ICP sensor in the am when its cold, thanks Brandon! If that's not it i guess we will go under the valve cover and check the harness clips and such. Of course my brother in law has not replaced any injectors, his excursion just started freaking out when its cold.

I recommend logging all sensors until it gets warm. Way easier than tearing stuff apart. Your mileage may vary.

my truck acted like that when air was getting in the fuel into the injectors from a leaky fuel filter bowl. it happened mostly below 1/4 tank. how much have you driven it since the injectors replaced. may take 100 miles or so to work all air out, or maybe you have air leaking into the fuel yet

Thanks. I did the in-tank kit from ITP a few weeks back, I don't think it is air....at least from the tank. I've run a tank of fuel through since the injectors were put in. I don't think it is EBPV either...I definitely here it come on (when cold temp outside) but it goes off as it should as soon as I tap the brake and put it in gear.

I'm changing ICP sensor today (just because) since it has oil around the sensor when I unplug it. I've heard this indicates a failure or looming failure. Would be nice if that were the issue but I doubt it....doesn't seem to idle any better when unplugged.

I haven't noticed any 'leaks' but how can I check for leaky fuel filter bowl?
