Trans Problem

I have a '97 F350 7.3L. I have an automatic transmission problem i am hoping you all can help me with. When I am driving it seems to just pop out of gear, and go into neutral. Sometimes when I put it into drive it just doesnt go into gear. The fluid level is fine, and bright red. It sounds like I am not getting enough fluid pressure, or something. I really dont know. Thanks for the help.

no, reverse works fine. I will have to try that, and let you know wht happens. If it is the linkage what should be my course of action? as in wheres it located, how much is a new linkage setup?

I would try and get it scanned for trouble codes first.

Auto Zone scans them for free. Otherwise you can take it to the dealer and have them scan it, but they ususally charge $75 and up for a "diagnostic test".

Also tell him to get under dash under column and look straight up. he will see the linkage column hooked to a cable going out the drivers side from the column connected by two torx bolts. These bolts come loose and cause worlds of problems.

Autozone will tell him there are no trans codes. They can't read Ford trans codes with the tools that they have. You need someone with a Ford specific scan tool. Ford dealers have them, and so do some independant shops. Autozone does not.
