Muffler Delete Questions

A couple people have said that just by removing the muffler on a stock exhaust will lower your EGTs by as much as 150 degrees. I've seached and found out the proper way to cut the muffler out. Rotate the one pipe after the Cat up to align with rear tail pipe. I would like a little more sound. So how much louder is this gonna be? I live in the city with houses pretty close and don't want to tick off the neighbors when it's warming up in the morning. My next door nieghbor has a 99 7.3L he wouldn't mind but his wife might. Also will this add the dreaded drone in the cab.

Unless you drag race out of the neighborhood it isn't going to bother too many people. There will always be one who doesn't like it.....

I cut out the muffler in my 04 Excursion and left the cat in place. It is not too loud, when you nail it you hear a pretty good growl but nothing that would be piercing to your ears or anything. Cut it out and worst case if you don't like it, have an aftermarket straight through performance muffler installed! I love mine, sounds really good now and the turbo spools faster, which is noticeable! I think I am getting about 1mpg better too!

I cut mine out...at idle and under 2500 RPM's, no problem. If you WANT to hear it, stomp your right foot!! Ahhhhhh...sounds great!

That's what I wanted to hear. I guess I'll go get some pipe and cut my muffler out.

I think you will be happy with it gone. I love the way mine sounds. You can hear it a little at idle but not much at all. But like the others said when you hit the gas pedal it sounds great between 2500-3000 rpm. Even better if it is lugged up a little pulling a load. It also makes your tow/hual sound great when its slowing you down.

I have an 04 Crew Cab , Cab and chassis with a flat bed on it and every one that rides in it old and young love the way she sounds when she is going through the gears or when I hit passing gear on the freeway.

The louder the better in some cases. I am only 28 but I don't think age has anything to do with it. I really just want my truck to run better and cool off sooner.

I have a couple of friends that have 96 and a 99 powerstroke and after listening to mine they both had their mufflers cutt out. The 99 didn't have a cat but the guy with the 96 got ridd of his kitty too. They are both in their 60's and they thank me every time they see me for letting them listen to mine.

I'm not sure egt's would lower too much because there really isn't much to an MBRP muffler. It's straight though and shouldn't cause THAT much backpressure. I deleted my cat and have an MBRP muffler and it sounds just a little quieter at 2k rpm than a co-worker that is straight piped. My 0.2

I need to take my muffler off.I've heard a few 6.0s without a muffler & they sound great. I didn't know it would lower the egts or I'd already have it off. I'm kinda low on funds or I'd buy a MBRP turbo back without a cat or muffler. I have a friend with this on his 6.0. It sounds like a jet taking off when he gets into it. I'm in my mid 50s & I've always put loud exhaust on my trucks. It just doesn't sound like a truck without a little growl. I may take it to my friends muffler shop tomorrow & get it taken off. He will do it for $50.

No sir. You need to take off your downpipe, put a bigger one on. Then, delete the cat, then, delete the muffler.

Your right but it might void my warranty. I plan to ask my dealer & if he will let me without voiding the warranty I'll put a MBRP turbo back on it.
