So I went to the local auto parts store and found a WIX air filter that is a direct cross over for the 6637. I prefer wix to napa brand but the question is
A. Will this still work?
B. Has anyone done this and got the same good result?
C. Does anyone here have any good reason not to go with the wix over the napa brand?
I know there has been great "discussion" about this whole 6637 issue and I apologise for bringing it up, i did a search on here about air filters and all I found was some heated words.
Last but not least:
D. What do I physically have to do to my truck to put one of these other filters on there, again I search but could only fine some slightly comical discussions.
A, B, C: If it's the Wix equivalent it should bolt right up. I run the 6637 and it's great.
D: I bought an extra large worm gear clamp and got a 4" long piece of 4" exhaust pipe to use as an adapter. Some people have had success with just plugging right in the end of their OEM intake tube - I didn't. If you want a picture of my setup, PM me and I'll get you one in the morning.
d. I just expanded my clamp as wide as it would go and muscled the rubber intake tube around the mouth of the filter. I haven't had an issue since but I have heard of others compaining of their's slipping off.

I did this also. If you scuff up the filter neck with some rough sand paper or a rasp, the intake tube will have something to bite into. I used the stock clamp and trimmed the alignment tab to it would fit in the clamp's slot. There is also an alignment tab on the end of the tube that you should trim off. Lastly, I wedged the filter against the tab that sticks out of the side wall of the battery tray to put a little force against the tube. Hard to explain and I don't have any pics of it directly, but you'll see what I mean when you get in there. Here's what mine looks like:
I found spraying a little WD40 or another type lubricant inside the intake rubber helped alot when muscleing the filter on. I also used the original clamp... just unscrewed it completely and then re-attached when filter was on. That suckers not going anywhere...
Oh, and I didn't see anyone post that you need to remove the top and bottom part of your filterbox. Hope this helps...
If you need a piece of 4" SS exhaust email me your address and the length (usually 3-4") and Ill send you a piece. I had one Heck of a time doing mine without the exhaust pipe , until another FTE member sent me a piece . Good Luck,
I did the same as Joe, just didn't put a clmap on it. 'Course when I installed mine, I took off the intake tube and pressed it down onto the filter which was on the ground. Fit pretty solid and hasn't come loose yet. DP Tuner and DiPricol gauge install tomorrow at 0800 hrs on my truck and a friends!!!
