Okay I was going to go with the 2.5" originally but I measured my truck today from the ground to the center of the wheel well on a level surface and the back measured 39 1/4 and the front measured just short of 37 1/4.
Now with that in mind, I'm assuming I should go with the 2" to get a level look right? Thanks for any advice.
My truck's a 4x4 Lariat with the 18 inch wheels. I wanted the 2.5 inch kit but I don't want the front higher than the back under normal circumstances. According to my measurements with the 2.5" kit it would be a hair more than a half-inch higher on the front. Is that right or will it look perfectly level? I don't tow a whole lot. A boat in summer very rarely. Other than that mostly just haul the trash to the landfill twice a month. Thanks in advance.....
I would stick with the 2 inch, but this is coming from a person who likes the nose down stance(because my trucks are ALWAYS loaded). GO to the Rancho site and look up there new front end systems too.
Hey al, I'm a long time reader of this site, this might be my 2nd post. Anyhow, I'll be say gbye to my '97 F-150 any day now to treat myself to a 98 F-150. I'm in Chicago IL and I must have the nuttiest dealers in the lower 48. It seems every XLT Super Crew MUST come with the chrome package. The bling sells apparently.
I'm lookin for a crew with 6.5 bed, xlt, 5.4, 4x4, ... After which I'll put a bedliner in, cab-high cover on the bed, nerf bars, and most likely the Troyer fan kit.
My ? to you gents; should I get the factory inst. Sat radio or go aftermarket? Factory step bars? If I order to get the otherwise dealer unchoosen options like 35gal tank, how long is the wait?
Some of the axles are available as regular drive and some as limited slip, DO I really really, really need limited slip ?
I can't help you with the wait time but getting a 4x4 without some type of locking device in the rear axle is stupid. Get the (although marginal) LS rear end.
If you're ordering you should price out the aftermarket vs factory Sat radio. My guess is that the factory one will be MUCH more expensive but more integrated.
I like the factory, chromed step tubes.
Welcome to FTE!
I was just looking at that exact truck (in silver) today, BTW.
Thanks for Hijacking my thread! Now is that off topic or was that just me???!!!
Welcome to the forum anyhow.
Anyway, I'm just going to order the 2" kit. According to my measurements I can't go wrong with the 2" AS kit. Like I've always said, the measuring tape never lies, and with 37.25 up front and 39.25 out rear, the 2" kit would put the front right at 39.25. Thanks, I'll post pics when I get it on. Thanks to you all.
Hey KrazyMatt, sorry to have stomped my wet boots on your thread, but I frown on guys that start a whole new post just to say "Hey Look at Me" !. I'm on the verge of gettin a New F-150 and your leveling thread baited and hooked me. A buddie at work put the 2" level in his 150 and got 1.5 inches total lift out of it. Looks sweet!
On my 97 F-150, I did the 2" body lift, front torsion bar knuckles for 1" extra, 31" rubbers, and re-ratio of front and rear axles. The leveling of the front end was sweet, but whenever a load was hauled in back, I felt like I was facing skyward. Somehow the rear must be addressed as well. Do you have a plan for strenghten the back end.
I've thought of adding a leaf, air bags, and coil over springs. What say you?
I have the 2.5 daystar level kit and I like the way it looks. It is almost level. But with any load it is down in the rear. I dont haul alot so I like the look. If you have a load in your truck most of the time you may want to go with the 2".
No problem at all Flatbilly. I finally ordered the 2" kit. Originally I wanted the most bang for my buck as far as lift with the 2.5" kit, but when I took the measuring tape to it, the 2" should get me pretty darn close to perfectly level. I really didn't want to have to start messing with the rear plus I'm still at least a year off from needing tires so I definitely didn't want the "my truck needs bigger tires look." Thanks. Will post before and after pics within the next week or two.
