I just lost all 8 of my GPs. I guess the controller must have turned them on when I wasn't paying attention. Going the the manually switched route with Berus...
The old plugs were Autolites, and although none of them lost the tips, three of them blew the side out, and were a bit of a pain to extract. Bits of whatever the outer surface is made of are missing. Is this a teardown situation? I sure don't feel like pulling the heads off right now, although I'm beginning to think that I may be losing a little compression on one of the cylinders...
Thanks for the replies. The missing material is on the side of the plugs, and the largest missing portion is about .25" x .25" I'm trying to figure out how to attach a jpeg, but haven't got it yet...
I'm not really sure when during my workday the failure occurred, and am afraid that the engine was probably run for some time with these pieces potentially inside. What is inconnel? I realize that these may be comprised of something entirely different, but will inconnel break apart easily? Will it pass without damage?
Yep, I've been thinking that I need to put up new info, as I've gotten a couple of new trucks. This one is an '84 F350, 6.9, T19, Sterling rear, (4.10?)
Appreciate it, Dave. That's what I was hoping for. I guess I'll just run it and hope for the best for now. I've got one of those early blocks that someone cracked with the heater. If I can manage to fix the water jacket, then I might pull the heads at that point.
If you think that a repair is possible to the cracked block at the block heater.. there are a million guys waiting for the answer........ everything possible had been tried and I mean everything. Sorry........
When you go into your gallery and open one of the pictures there is a "(Forum Codes)" link in the center of the picture at the bottom edge of the picture.
Click that link.
I copy and paste the link below "display full size" into my reply at the location I want the picture to appear.
Here is and example, but I removed the [img] and [/img] tags so you could see the link.
If you click the link, you will be taken to the picture that would have been displayed if I left the tags in place.
That problem was only 83, 84 and very early 85 engines.
Just looks like a crack starting at the block heater hole radiating out away from the hole.
Usually in the general direction the heater element was pointed.
