i've had my 2000 excursion 4x4 limited 7.3 for only a couple months. one of the first things i did was fix all five actuators with the aluminum foil fix. its worked fine for a couple months. the right rear door gradually started having problems. first it quit unlocking with powerlocks, then wouldn't open from the inside handle, then the outside handle. now pulling up the door lock doesn't seem to do anything and it won't open at all. i got the inside door panel off and removed the outer handle. i broke the actuator trying to get it slid off the little rails. i can push down on the little lever that the outer door handle is connected to by a rod. but that won't open the door. i can't open the door to get at the striker plate or the claw that grabs it. i've pushed and pulled on everything that moves (and that i can reach). ive pulled the handles while pulling on the door lock. i've pushed from the inside, and pulled from the outside while wiggling everything i can. it just won't open. help me before i break out the cutting torch. thanks.
Wow that sounds like it has been welded already. I would think it would have to be the actuator was engaged in lock mode when it died but I would think you would manually be able to pull it up and unlock. Start from scratch and get the new actuator. I personally say OEM even thought they cost more they seem to last longer in my opinion. Good luck. I will also ask my buddy if he has any ideas or has seen this happen to anyone in his shop
Sorry to bump an old thread, but, how'd you end up opening the door
I was changing out power door lock actuators, and some how mucked up things on the rear, right hand door. The actuator seems to do something, the **** moves up and down, but, no matter what, I can't actually open the door, either using the outside handle or the inside. I've still got the interior panel off and tried pushing and pulling everything that moves (that I can apparently reach), however, that door is not opening.
Sounds like the door is locked. Try taking off the opposite side door panel and watch the workings of the lock and latch and what the rods do when it works, and you will probably see what the stuck door is NOT doing.
