Hi ive got a 2001 f350 Diesel 4x4. i put a 2.5in leveling kit in it from summit, which looks great, and i recently had the ball joints replaced. Pretty much everytime i drive it will make a knock on the drivers side. i pulled it into my garage and torqued up everything that i did on the leveling kit again and seems tight. Then i realized that the steering stabalizer was shot and i took it off and that seemed to help with tightness of the steering. The hubs are hard to turn when i engage it into 4wheel. and it seems to knock more when its in 4wheel. Im woundering if anyone has had this same problem, and if replacing the hubs will solve my problem, or if it is something else inside the axle that goes. If anyone knows anything your help will be greaty appreciated.
Thanks, Baret
The new angles created by the lift may have caused the swaybar links bushing to start making noise. They tend to knock at bumps and turns, not all the time. They will feel like something knocking on the frame. Was the problem there before the leveling kit?
my truck was doing the same noise your talking about but mine would do it turning it either direction. A guy who I worked with at Freightliner had an 03 with a 6.0 same configuration as my truck. He said his was doing the same noise and he found it to be the trac bar bushings. So I replaced them with some aftermarket ones and the noise went away and has not come back. Thats my vote but you will need a press to remove the old ones and put the new ones back in and it still wasnt easy to do.
Ok ya that sounds like it might be those bushing, it does feel like its knocking on the frame, and the ball joints look good the shop replaced them with greasable ones. any idea what aftermarket bushings are good i dont want to have to replace them for a while? Thanks again for your help
