2x a year oil changes cool?
If you can't afford the added cost of synthetic oil, then don't use it. However, the cost difference really is not that much more, and that investement is simply used to protect vital engine parts, pumping when cold, and many other benefits synthetic oil provides to ANy engine, even a 3.5 HP lawnmower engine.
Some people (not saying you) balk at paying extra for synthetic oil, but have no problem buying 3 cartons of cigarettes every other week. Cigarettes provide ZERO benefits, yet some people will waste hundreds and thousands of dollars on a product that is killing them.
At least synthetic oil, has many benefits to justify it's higher cost.
Some dino oils now, at $2- $2.75 a quart and quality synthetic oil at $4.95-$6 a quart, average. so were not talking a HUGE difference in cost, bottom line.
Also, remember, I never said using conventional or dino oils is a bad idea. Not too sure where you drew that conclusion from?
Also, your education from the 70s, synthetic oils have GREATLY improved, and their formula is light years different now, even as recent as 10 years ago. So to say that there is a huge difference is again wrong.
I would also submit that today's dino oils are more closely related to synthetic oil, as synthetic oil is related to dino oil. Mainly in terms of resistance to thermo breakdown, engine deposits, sludging, varnishing ect. It is because of the advance knowledge the oil engineers have discovered about synthetic oil, that has improved ALL dino oils in the past 10+ years.
