I Have a 85 F150 with the 300 straight six in it. I would like to put headers on it. I found one at clifford that has two outlets. I am planning on running 2.25 inch pipe into a cat then a glasspack off each outlet. Is this a good idea? How will this setup sound?
Sounds like a good idea. Look into a muffler of some sort though. I myself thought of doing what you want to do but it wasn't highly recommended by several exhaust specialists where I reside. They said there wouldn't be enough back pressure to retain needed torque. Most of them suggested if I wanted what looked like a dual exhaust I should do the same setup(headers, 2.25" pipe and cat) and look for a 2.25" single inlet/2" dual outlet muffler. Flowmaster sells a 50 series muffler with this type of setup. As for what it will sound like I have no idea. Check the forum for other messages on this subject. I know their out there!
I was finished looking at Clifford Performance's user forum and there are several messages regarding the Flowmaster 50 series muffler. All articles claim this muffler sounds good with this type of engine. Check'em out at http://www.thepcshopper.com/ubb/Forum3/HTML/000190.html
I put in a single 12" glasspack off of my cat with dual 2.25" pipes off of that, and it isnt real loud, but it sounds pretty good in my opinion. Although if I could have afforded it, I think I would have gone with a flowmaster instead.
