Engine oil questions
Hello I'm a newbie here. Been using my 03 F350 6ltr diesel as a snow plow truck. Have always used a 15w/40 oil. Would like to change to a snythethic and or blended oil. The truck has 120,000kms, uses no oil. Temps here -20 to +5 average winter (Calgary area). Its been suggested to use a 0/w30 syn winter and 10/w30 syn summer. The engine works hard for short bursts when plowing snow, in low gear. Lots of gear shifting. Any oil suggestions and interval change times. Also suggested to me was 8-10,000 kms between changes, but change just the filter at half km time......Doc

For those temps I'd use any of the 5w-40 CI4+ rated synthetics that are currently out. Looking at past UOAs Shaeffer's 9000 5-40 synthetic seems to be very good, can be had at just over $4 a quart if bought in bulk. I wouldn't use the 15-40 at those winter temps imho. Best of luck.
