Hello , I bought a firewall brake booster and hanging pedal, was wondering who else has done this setup. When I put the pedal bracket in placeit appears to be about 3/8" to 1/2" shorter than the distance between the firewall and dash board, is this usual that a manufacturer makes a part to fit one truck to find that it doesn't fit another. I'm hoping that the bolts on the brake booster are long enough if I put a 3/8" spacer plate between the pedal bracket and firewall. Why is it when working on these vintage trucks you take one step forward and two steps back?lol

John ,Did you aquire this as a kit ?..measure distance from firewall to lip at steering column mount(instrument cluster removed).Still to short? Call supplier with specs. of your part and ask some questions. If you've got booster from one place and pedal assy. from another...you,ve got some fabrication to dream-up.Most brkts i;ve seen tie the steering column mount to the pedal/swing assy to a 3rd mount-plate on the inside of the firewall(follow me so far?)...then gusset or triangulate the pedal arm and the firewall plate..easier to put booster mount requirement holes in plate 1st,sandwich firewall between booster and your new "and improved" pedal swing bracket.Good Luck!!

I have some pictures of my hanging pedal assembly mounting in my gallery.
I didn't have any problem with size/spacing. it fit between the firewall and dash just right.. this was on a 55 tho.
[QUOTE=LEckart] I imagine you have gotten one for another truck, not a 56. It should fit fairly snug between the firewall and the dash.
LEckart do you know if there is a difference between the measurements of the 53-55 verses the 56

Sam
Hi Sam, I checked out your gallery and the unit I have looks the same as yours. I am now wondering if there is a difference between the 56 and the earlier 53-55's measurements. I bought my unit from classic performance parts, there is no identification on the unit, so I can't match what I purchased out of thier catalog. In thier catalog it says 53-56 but when I recieved the unit the instructions says 53-55,I questioned that and was told that the instructions were generic but I had the correct unit this time. If the measurements are supposed to be the same 53 through 56 I have a problem I suppose.
I bought mine from EBAY, and it also lists the part as 53-56. Same as item 110207895534, (the pic link is broken tho)..
I've since replaced the master cyl and the booster to go chrome, and move the prop valve into the master (CPP's new master), my gallery pics here are out of date.
I would not be surprised if the distance from the firewall to the dash flange is different from 53/55 to 56 sense the dash is different. Can anybody measure there 53/55.
I am interested because i am thinking about switching my system to the cpp product
Very good article John, but seeing as I have this newly aquired piece I think I'll stick with it even if I have to do some surgery, it's amazing how much experience one gets working on these fun projects. I was trying to fit this unit in between jobs of tweeking my door seams( I have to keep myself busy so I don't get carried with heat buildup) I did measure from the firewall to the front face of the dashboard 13 1/4"
John , I measured 10&3/8 to the lip and 11&3/8 to the center of the column drop mount bolt,to the firewall under the dash on my 55. Your set-up may end up being different ,but the booster push-rod ends up coming smack-thru that center rib on the firewall. The P.O supplied the part..made by " Industrial Chassis "..and it sure looks it, its a beast..and HEAVY..I thought about your situation and was thinking of some kinda horizontal "T" or flatstok welded to your pedal-assy at the drop mount, then a plate welded to the other at the firewall , joining the plate to the pedal assy.Am I imagining this correctly ??" Hope that helps

The unit I have would work prefectly with the measurements you posted, I'm thinking that maybe my panel was one of those early Monday morning or hurry up it's time to go home Friday runs on the assembly line things, lol. I guess I'll cut and extend at the column drop. Thanks for your input.
John
I think your measurements are right for a 56. I just tried to measure my 56 pick up but I have 79 ltd2 hanging pedal and a dash extension in the way but it seemed to measure from the firewall to the center of the column drop bolts 11 7/8.

Hi Chuck, those measurements are exactly what my panel measures so maybe there is a difference between the 53-55 and the 56, I'll have to do the cut piece and weld because I can't afford the brokerage that UPS charges, this is the second one CPP has sent already.
