i would d the old cheapy test. find a gravel patch and floor the brakes. if the abs is working, the brakes wll pulsate. if it isnt wrking, the wheels will just lock up and slide. but thats me, i always try the easy cheap way first before running all over the place like a chicken with its head cut off.
What kind of events trigger an ABS light? Just curiouse cause mine came on when I was sliding backwards on some ice trying to get up a hill.......oh and I switched to 4wd high while the rear tires were spinning and when the hubs kicked in I got a grinding sound. I think it was cause I was giving it a little gas and the rears were spinning while I swithched it to 4wd hi but I dont know if that could trigger the ABS light. Anyone know? sorry to hi-jack the thread.
Not sure for your model year, but on my 94 F250 with 460, whenever I work on the passenger side of the engine... about half the time I dislodge one of the vacuum lines going to the Air conditioner box against the fire wall. These vacuum lines will make several weird things happen depending on which one it it. SOmetimes the line will cause the ABS to go out. Plugging the line back in usually fixes it and it is a freebie.
But usually the Speed sensor is what causes the ABS to go out. Usually the speedo will either not work or will jump around a lot when the sensor is bad.
