1 key per vehicle? I thought the door and ignition key werent supposed to match at least not back then. Mine dont match and nethier does the ones on a 1990 mustang ive driven. In both cases the door key has a round handle and the ignition is square, Is this just a coincidence or maby its a canadian thing?
GM was big on the two key thing. The Ford trucks I have owned used one key till the ignition tumbler fell apart, and then I had two keys, one for the new ignition tumbler, and the old one for the doors and the hood latch.
You can always call around to the locksmiths to see what they would charge. I like the one key per vehicle approach.
Can you pull the inner panels and get to the cylinders? You can pull them and take them to the lock smith yourself if you are short on coins.
John
Don't even need to pull the panels. Open the door and look at the door jamb on the door, about the same height as the key tumbler. You will see a rectangle piece of metal. Pry this metal piece out, and the tumbler will come out.

As original: The door/ignition keys matched from (at least) 1941 thru 1981.
When purchased new, all Ford vehicles came with two sets of keys.
Along with the keys were round tags that had the key code(s) on them.
Dealers were supposed to write the key codes into the owners manual.
The codes begin with: FA for square headed keys / FB for round headed keys.

My 86 and my dad's 84's all use a round key for the doors, and square for the ignition, so I don't see this as a problem, since they are factory set up this way...
Wouldn't surprise me if that same set isn't cheaper at your favorite parts house. This will still have you using two keys for the truck, a locksmith will have to rekey them to use just one. John
Woodn't surprise me either.
"Da Dummy" mainly listed the numbers to show that Ford used "keyed alike" ign/door lock sets thru 1981. Then "Da Dummy" checked online to see if either was available.

Hope that helps !
I'm really suprised nobody mentioned J-Yard..With my truck,I went around to a couple of trucks and looked for keys.If it had the door key,I tried it in the locks. It might take a couple different trucks, but I found mine within 10 minutes. When I went to pay, the lady said 2 bucks for all....can't complain...
I personally didn't say Junk Yard, cause that's a given for me.
I get EVERYTHING from the Junk Yard..........
True.I'm the same..with looks wise..anything mechanical,I get new.But interior/body I get from the jyard. There's no replacement for factory ford sheetmetal...
buy the lockset from the parts store. open your door and pull the keeper out (shiny flat thing 1-1/2" X 1/4" on inside of door) with needlenose. use a screwdriver or something to keep the rod from falling into door remove the C - clip and install new lock. can be done faster than it took me to type this.
