ok i have a new problem with this truck 97 expy 2 wheel drive wiht air ride. i have no heat at all in the front or back, i had the blend door changed and then they (ford dealer) said that the thermostat was bad, i fixed it and it still doesnt have heat. i know it sounds funny but after i watched the motor i think the fan clutch i scoming on way to early. its 40 or so here and from dead cold you can start the motor and wait 1 minute and the fan kicks in. i have seen fan clutches go out befor, but never have i seen them go out and cause an over cooling problem. i let the motor run for about 10 minutes and the top radiator hose was still ice cold, the temp gauge inside shows just above cold and never gets any hotter. any hep would be greatly appreciated as i will not go back to the ford dealership.
if the thermostat is bad the truck can run and the uper hose will stay cool for as long as you run the truck. the clutch on my expedition and excursion clutch on and off when cold. so you might try a new thermostat or is it orientated corectly in the upper intake. I chnged the excursion last winter with great sucess and expedition last week. both went from barley on the bottom of the C to middle of the range within two mile drive. Remember to purge your system of air and in a ford repair book the recomend to turn the vehicle off and the return to operating temp to purge system.
good luck

it has a new thermostat and the system was purged as per for guidlines. the new stat may be bad, but that is highly unlikely. anyone else got any good ideas?? i sure could use some.
them is me on the thermostat. i wasnt paying 285 for a thermostat and i know that it is in correctly, i did it the same way that the old one was. but i guess that i need to try a nother one, what gets me is the water temp guage goes up about a quarter but i dont have anyheat, front or rear. i would think that if the heat guage reads i would have heat. this is the wifes car so i dont know how it read before the trouble.
I just did some work on my neighbors 88 CK1500. His thermostat was bad, causing coolant to not go to the engine till 215 degrees. I replaced the thermostat with little change, sometimes kicking on as early as 145 degrees. Got ANOTHER thermostat and IT worked. It turned out the replacement was bad, Just wondering, is it that common for thermostats to be ill manufactured?
