He and a few friends decided to go wheeling back in Aug and this is what happened. They have no footage of all the stuff I did make it through. But what lead to the downfall of my engine. Here is the movie I finally got to see the other day. http://s214.photobucket.com/albums/c...50Drowning.flv
I hope you bought a ****** strap after that. They make a custom fitting cover for distibuter cap,(keeps it dry) for splashing through the deep stuff. I did the same thing 20 years ago. Live and learn........then do it again.
I used to love crossing streams in my old '72 Blazer. To make it water resistant I used a Mallory distributor with a blue marine cap. I'm not sure if they (marine distributor caps) are available for Fords, but there should be something out there similar.
To keep water out of the carb, I used a factory air cleaner off an old carbureted turbo V6 Buick. In the Buick, the air cleaner is attached to the inner fender wall and connects to the top of the carb using a flexible ducting. Rather than mount the air cleaner on the inner fender as on the Buick, I attached to the bottom of the hood near the firewall, the highest point possible. For those running carbureted motors, it is a good mod.
When playing near deep water it is a good idea to tools to remove the spark plugs handy. Removing the plugs and cranking the motor will displace the worst of the water. A little WD40 sprayed into the spark plug holes will make restarting easier.
