Wonderin if any of yalls can sujest a strong CB mount that is designed to hang from the ceiling? Ive never liked CBs mounted on the floor or from bottom of console because they get kicked/dirty, gotta reach around and between gear shifts, take eyes off the road, the cord gets tangled everywere...etc
So i was thiniking i could mount it off the ceiling, but the stock mount i dont think will hold through the rough offroading my truck loves so much...
Any ideas? I could fab something but i figured id ask before i ventured out into the cold to the shop to work with even colder metal...
I saw a pretty cool one in a Ranger one time where a guy had used the overhead console mount from an Explorer and mounted a CB to it. If you'd doing it in the F-150 though, I guess that's not much good to you.
Have you removed the headliner to see what's under there yet? Which truck is this going in?
Its going in my F150.
I havnt taken the headliner off in this truck before so im not sure what im going to be dealing with. I was thinking of drilling oversized holes than what the mount bolts are (whatever that turn out to be) so i can grommet the bolts to prevent water leakage, Im never crazy about drilling holes in my truck though =/
There should be a solid frame under the actual roof you could use for mounting, that way you're not drilling into the physical roof of the truck. But I'm a Ranger/Explorer guy, so I've no idea how it looks on the F-150.
Personally, I'd drop the headliner, get some pictures and measurements, and work from there.
I was planning on doing that today until i come home and find my dad took it to work (its snowing and he wanted 4x4)
Its gunna suck for him when he hits the highway and learns that i unbolted the canopy yesterday...
Well it has just been to damn cold to work on the truck lately but i suppose i'l get around to pulling the headliner soon.
But my dad made it to work fine and got my email so bolted it back down before coming home. Damn i was kinda hoping to be rid of that canopy once and for all
Man it's a great engine...they say it'll outrun the 5.0L stock in the Explorer. It'd definitly outrun the Ranger with the old school 4.0L OHV. The combo of the 4.0L SOHC and 5 speed auto, even with the mid-range 3.55 rear gearing, it's still peppy as hell. The 15.5 MPG is a not so wonderful change from the Ranger though lol.
Im not shure if i could deal with an auto tranny in my DD, i would just get to damn bored!
But man 15.5 mpg seems a bit low even in the heavy(er) exploder platform. I'd run a can of seafoam through it and switch the tranny and diff fluid to synthetic and try to pick up another 2-5 mpg.
Course keeping your foot off the skinny pedal is the biggest part of it, but thats just no fun!
I can't keep my foot outta the skinny pedal to save my life...it's way, way, way too fun to play with.
I thought 15.5 seemed a little low...I know it needs new spark plugs (and if you saw the engine you'd know why the prev owner put it off), so I'm figuring a good tune up next time I'm home will help that.
Here you go, 0-83ish in 15 seconds (delay before I hit the skinny pedal...stupid camera).
I'm still gettin' used to see it hit almost 6K lol...after the OHV that's a bit of a change. It really surprised me how well it pulled, not only off the line, but even into third gear, it was still pulling strong and linear.
As do I, unfortunantly i cant even BEGIN to get ready to launch into that project until i finish up all my assorted suspension stuff first, which at the rate its going could be awhile.
Was gunna pull the headliner today but changed my mind real quick when i lifted my arms up to unscrew the trim, damn these broken ribs!
Just curious, whats the exploder idle at? The ranger seems really high to me but doesnt have a tach but by the sound id say between 2000-2500. Maybe thats not high for newer SOHC engines i dont know.
