Keep my 6?
Musta never driven a 4bbl 300-6. I have no trouble at all pulling a 5000lb trailer behind my bronco, I can maintain 60mph pulling the trailer up a decent grade in 4th gear knowing I can still downshift to 3rd and get er up to 70mph@4500rpm. With the cam,4bbl, and headers this pulls just as good as my dads old 6.9L diesel f-250. I get about 12-15mpg with this rig

My '67 F100 (240 or 300 cid? Can't tell the difference. Which is it?) shortbed holed a piston 900 miles from home. (Please don't ask how/why...) The master wrench-twister I lucked into there - Warrenton, MO - had a well-maintained, <60,000 mi. 351 he offered to swap for $600 flat. Installed.
A rebu 240 long block will cost me about $800 + about $600 installation. All the incidentals (carb, alt, fuel pump, belt, wp) are less than a year old. 87,000 mile truck, spread out evenly over thirty-three years.
I dare somebody to tell me that I was wrong to go with the rebu.
I DARE 'em!
I'm not what you'd call "brand-loyal", so I can say this: the Ford 240/300 six is on a par with the famous Chevy (219? 235?) six, or the ChrysCorp slant6. An honest-to-goodness milestone. A legend.
Like an early Honda CB750K. Or a Kaw Z1-900. Or a Triumph pre-unit 650. Or a BMW /2. or a Yamaha R-anything...or a Steinway Concert Grand...or a Round Oak wood stove...or a Victorinox knife...or a, well, you get the idea.
A keeper.

well, about 8,000 miles ago the 300 I6 in my 85 F-150 was replaced because my little brother didn't realize the radiator had been puntured while driving down the highway. prior to the new motor, it got 16mpg no matter what. now with the new, tighter motor i get ab 15-18 in town and 18-21 on the highway. highway get-up-and-go is actually pretty good. but i have a FDR of 2.47. i was REALLY shocked when i was able to get the truck up to 100mph on a deserted stretch of highway!stay with the 300. it will treat you right in the long run.

Keep my 6?
Well, I like the 300, I had to replace my engine when my uncle first gave me my truck, he was after running it 1400 miles with the thermostat backwards, sure it had a warped head, but it still ran, and had enough power to spin the tires. Mine has a '66 240 head on it that provides a 10.25:1 compression ratio, and I am running a header, and while a new intake, 4bbl and cam are on the list, it has all the power I want. I have hit 110 mph with this truck(3470 rpm.)

I had a 300 I6 with the 1 barrel carb, in my bronco. it was dam gutless. but I guess if you did that kinda stuff to it it would be powerfull.
it lost a wrist pin after 120k miles. think the oil pump went on it. I was going to replace it with a reman...but I decided to go with a 302 and 4 barrel carb. let me tell you I couldn't be happier right now.
I still have the I6 I might just keep it and rebuilt it for a hobbie....
