I need to replace my EGR valve -- major vacuum leak. Number on valve is E1TE-9D448-H1A - very clear.
Mail order parts house says this is not the valve that goes on this engine - I removed it myself and it looks like the original. Lots of valves have same number except for last three, there are H2A, L1A, U1A, etc.
How important is this suffix? I want to keep EGR valve on because I have to pass emissions test every two years - and I just barely pass as it is. Secondly, engine runs hotter with valve removed and exhaust/intake ports plugged.
They want to send me a different valve (I don't want to bad-mouth them because they are being very helpful). How BIG of a deal is it with the improper valve (but close). Just how finely can such a valve regulate exhaust gas recirculaton?
The E1 denotes its an 1981 part number , E is 1980's , 1 means 1981 . Check with Ford Parts , Im sure that part number has been superceded many times over the last 20 yrs . The place you are buying it from may have a revised number or the valve itself may have changed design ? Sometimes when replacing emission parts you have to have the engine claibration number to get the part designed for the engine . Since you have the original part number , Ford Parts should be able to give you latest part number .
Its been a year and a half, but I will chime in anyways. Yes, there are MAJOR differences in how the valves work with other parts of the calibration and they are generally NOT cross-refabble.
In my experience, the HxA valve is found only on Canadian models of the truck (I happen to own a canadian 1981 F100 I6 getting a new valve tonight).
I bet you find that your carb rebuild kit from the tag is also hard to find (but GP sorensen kit from advance covers all E0TE/E1TE carbs)
4 big vacuum motors on that year of the 4.9 to check: the TAC on the air box, the distributor advance, the AIR purge valve, and the EGR. When setting up the new egr, validate that the 4 port TVS on the front of the engine does indeed switch over, and that the WOT dump valve on the front of the carb holds vacuum regularly, and dumps nicely when triggered.
