Talking Truck Value

Hello all,

I have a question for everyone who comes here? As you all may know I previously posted a topic saying that I just got my Motor rebuilt back a couple of weeks ago. Now what I would like everyones help with is determening the value of my truck. I have deleted the old pictures I had in my gallery and add new ones with my good digital camer the ones before were with my camer phone. I have taken Pictures of the entire truck to include the new engine as well. What I would like is for everyone who reads this to take a look at my gallery and tell me what you think. I am really curious to find out what it's worth now. Thanks for anyone who can help me.

To be brutally honest I would give you $2500 if I was looking to buy. The majority of the big parts are all done but all the little things add up. The interior looks really good until you realize the doors are missing panels. The engine looks good with a fresh paint job. The coil and a few other items need some TLC to make it shine though. As for wiring, I'm the guy who will hide it where ever I can to keep your eyes focused on the engine. Granted if you look at my turd you'd say the same thing about it. OK, I do all the time. LOL

It's not easy to put a value on a vehicle with out looking at it in the flesh. You have a nice paint job on your truck but who is to say what is under that paint. The engine being rebuilt and painted makes it worth more than one that is tired but what you payed to get it rebuilt means nothing to someone that can do the job himself and save some big bucks but having it pro built helps if the someone buying feels better about that. You have a nice truck and a great start to a nicer truck but the value is what you think it is and what you can convince someone it is in paying for it. I dont mess around with old cars and trucks to try to make money on them I just enjoy working on them. Keeps me out of trouble except with the wife. Keep it, drive it, and enjoy it. If someone makes you an offer you can't refuse sell it and get another one to work on if your intention in asking is to sell.

Thanks for the info guys and as for you airharley, you must be crazy dude I got more in the motor rebuild than that I'll put it to you this way and I might be crazy or I might just not want anyone to buy it from me but I wouldn't take less than 8,000.00 for it as it sets, I can assure you that the body is solid with no bondo I am the second owner of this truck the previous owner had it garage kept. The truck itself only has 128749 origanal miles on it with the motor only having about 750 miles on it. I know that it doesn't have door panels on it but gosh they only cost 124.00 bucks for the pair. Anyway thanks again for the crazy appraisal you gave me I hope you guys have a merry christmas and a happy new year.

Resale value.

The truck is worth exactly what somebody will pay for it. I have always thought you maybe can get half of the money out of a vehicle you intend to sell that you put in to it.
Most buyers do not trust a non professional rebuild. Too many horror stories out there.
If you can find a truck similar to yours in the local newspaper, that is a pretty good indication of what you could get out of your truck.
Is the truck worth more to you than the amount of money somebody will pay you for it? Then keep it. If somebody wants to give you an amount of money more than it is worth to you, sell it.

Bud, YOU owe Mark an apology. You came here and asked a question and didn't like the answer that you got. Welcome to the real world of owning an old Ford truck.

Maybe your question should have been: "what do I need to do to increase/maximize the value of my truck?" The devil is in the details. Too often we are so used to looking at our trucks that we overlook some of the details that would make it a show stopper or grab the attention of a potential buyer. I don't think you can approach this hobby with the idea of selling and making a profit (or even breaking even) unless you have an extremely rare and very desirable vehicle. My 2 cents worth. Also, if you don't want to hear the answer, don't ask the question.

Okay thanks for all the info guys maybe I did need to word the question differently. And just to let everyone know it did have a proffesional rebuild done to it. I have all the paperwork on hand. There is no way I could have done it myself I don't have the equipment or the knowlege to do it. And as for you jowilker I didn't think that my response to airharley was in now way rude I was just letting him know that I had way more invested in my truck than he was giving value to. And by the way last time I checked we were entitled to freedom of speech. I don't need you telling me who I need to aplogize to and who I don't. I didn't say anything rude to him I just expressed how I felt on his response. I know that if you ask a question on here you better be ready for the response you get the good and the bad. I guess in this case I should not have posted this question. It's just that someone on here posted a similar question a while back and they didn't get any greif about the value of there truck nor did they get the whole it's worth what you think it is and stuff. They actually got a pretty good estimate and I just figured that's what I would get too. Apparently not so to you airharley I am sorry if I hurt you feelings on the matter and to you jowilker if you don't have anything to say in regards to my post then butt out!

You didn't hurt my feeling in the slightest bit. That is why I said I was being brutally honest. LOL I have thick skin towards most things in life. I have roughly $9,000 in my truck but you would never know looking at it. All of my money went into the engine, brake upgrades, wiring, guages, and replacing other worn out stuff. I have a long way to go to get my paint looking as good as yours.

The thing I learned a long time ago was to pay attention to details. That is where most people on here find flaws in regards to good "looking" engines or trucks. I am not saying your engine or truck is questionable but too many shaddy people exsist to take advantage of the uninformed. Think "fly by night car dealer". Clean paint can hide rod knocks if you know what I mean. Most stringent buys will think "if you took the time to rebuild the engine what happened to the engine bay?" and so on. I have walked away from great looking projects because there were too many questions I was asking myself.

That's cool dude I can see where you are coming from on that. It's nice to see someone is actually being real about this whole thing. And thanks for the info you wrote back about now I kinda know what to do and what direction I need to take into getting my truck flawless LOL. Thanks again for the info Mark, also any suggestions about the wiring for my truck It seriously needs to be fixed I could do it if I had a good wiring diagram for a 66 custom cab. You wouldn't happen to know anyone who might have one that could scan it and send to me in an email would you? Thanks again

William; I believe all the previous post are both professional and sincere; These Slicks are IMHO broken down into three classes for sell. 1= stock OEM daily driver level; 2= semi-restored either back yard or professional; 3= professional full body off restoration. Even these three classes can break down into subclassess. I have seen each class to its fullest; The price range varies especially in the 2nd & 3rd class. Class One I range $800 to 2k; Class Two 2K to 8K; Class Three over lay's two and could run up into the 2 to 300K level.
I believe our trucks are slowly seeing a increase in value; but still far behind the top five sells; (Camero, Chevelle, Mustang's, Corvette, & any Mopar with a Hemi). I truthfully will omit GM trucks bring more value at the same level of resto.
Your truck is in great shape and has alot of potential to be a high seller; but its a tough crowd on this site to determine the right value. I've invest alittle over 12K in my 65 and that's not including labor; I wouldn't take anything less than I have invested; so I guess I be keeping it alot longer and then be willing too sell. I agree it would only bring about 2/3rds of its current investment; but that's not the reason I restore it; Its my joy & hobby to be able to have these trucks in my present.
Keep building / driving your 66 and enjoy it and the value will only increase.
Price is always base on the sellers & buyers desire to have & have not.

Mitch

Quite a few summers ago I had a CRF150 dirtbike for messing around. I bought it off the showroom floor at the Honda dealership for $2400. I rode the snot out of this small bike (wheelies, jumps, etc.. stuff not designed for a 150cc trail bike). Two years later I had outgrown its tiny, sluggish power and put it up on Craigslist for sale. After turning down an endless amount of offers (in the low $1000s range, which was truly what it was worth), my holding out finally paid off. A woman came and took it away for $2200.

I know this example is with a little dirtbike, but still, it goes to show that patience is the key for selling stuff. Your truck could go for quite a bit if only the right person were to walk by.

Thanks again guys I know that It would sell for the right price if I were to hold out for the right person. I first want to thank you custom cab for elaberating the different levels there are to these trucks and all antique cars and trucks for that matter. I don't want to sell my truck so I don't want anyone to think that here I just wanted an estimate of what it may be worth based on the pictures I posted. I guess right now I am just full of myself because I just had the motor professionally rebuilt and like anyone else here probably I think my truck is the best out of all of them LOL. And I know that an estimate may be hard to do since they are just pictures. But honestly I wouldn't give my truck up for all the money in the world right now. This is the first truck I have ever owned and also the first antique vehicle I have ever owned as well. So I am kinda new to all this. I guess right now I'll just go with what I feel it's worth to me and my family. Thanks again to everyone on there insight to this matter.
