85 f-150 4x4 w/ a blown 300 i-6
Would like to upgrade to 351-w or M? Looked at a '78 f-150 351M non 4x4 any potental pitfalls, will it bolt up w/o a lot of jury riggin' and what about the exhaust?? Would like to know which motors bolt up to my 4spd and what years will work?
Thanks for your help in advance?!?

forget the 351m, and go with 351w if youmust have a v8. the 351w will bolt to your tranny.
youwill have to change frame mounts and radiator outlets will be on opposite sides( you can swap radiators or run hose or tubing to other side.
in my experience, i would consider what you want the truck for and consider keeping an i6.
it will be a lot less work and money upfront.

geno, i am saying that the six is a great engine for a lot of applications. they are tough and torquey. if you want higher revs and more cubic inches,go with 351 or 460!!!. but, be prepared to put out cash to get them in place.
i know you can get i6 from dealer for about 1500.00 for a long block and 1000.00 for short block if you want to use your old head.
if you go with six, you won't need new frame mounts, radiator with outlets on opposite side or hoses to reach old radiator outlets. you also have to get exhaust to hook up and reroute some wiring ( oilgauge, sensors, ignition, etc.) lengthen some hoses, shorten others for vacuum!!!
also, if using manual tranny, you must have correct flywheel and starter.
anyway, just a few points to ponder.

well doing a i6 to a 302 engine swap my self within the last 2 months. it was a hell of a lot of work.
I am glad I did it. couldn't be happier.
I got the stock crossover pipe from my bothers 85 f150. as that is where I picked up all the parts for the swap. minus fuel and electronics to fire the 302. if you have questions about the swap. I would be more than happy to answer them for you!
