CD player install

I have a Alpine XM/CD reciever that I am installing in my '79 to replace the AM/FM 8 track player that I now have. Any ideas on how to do this? How much cutting is involved in this install? What did you guys do to trim the hole you have to cut? I want it to look good when I'm done.

When I installed mine, I cut the mounting plate behind the dash and fabbed a new plate that just fit the CD player. It was fitted to the radio mount and I found a place to mount the support in the back. The new radio didnt match the old holes in the dash. I made an aluminum trim plate to hide the hole that was left. To mount the trim plate, I was able to drill and tap holes in the new plate and screw the trim to it.

I cut the original radio plate to fit the DIN mount. There is little to no room for error. When it came time to cut my new dash bezel I used an old one 1st and then transfered the measurements over.

ranger 429, I'm doing that on my truck, I have a new piece from Dennis Carpenter.

It looks like with my radio's surround, I can *just barely* center it and cover both the upper and lower chrome edging of the OEM radio hole.

Just barely is correct. Not much room for a mistake.

Nothing like spending $150 or so only to cut into it with a dremel

I just could'nt bear to cut into my dash, so I installed my surround sound reciever below it and kept the factory AM radio in the dash. If you have to though, the idea of double measuring is a good one! After all, you can't cut it bigger! :-)
Good luck!

That is the factory CB mic. You can see just below the lighter where it plugs in. Here is a close up pic of one of my spare mics.

Thanks, that is mic 2 of 3 that I have. I also have another complete setup, an extra NOS control module and an extra NOS cable from module to CB mic. Oh yeah, I also have an NOS CB antenna that will go on the Bronco when it is back home. I will end up putting the factory CB setup in my 250 as well.

Your install looks very good.
