i have an 87 f250 6.9 ext cab it has a steel flatbed on it i want o put some 5"or6" miter cut pipes coming up behind the headace rack. whats the best way to run them were can i get parts like reducers and stuff all i have is 4 foot tall 6" miter cut pipes. thanks justin
I took a piece of 6" square tubing, like a big gate post and capped off the ends. then i cut a hole in the bottom of it a ran a stub of pipe off of it about 1 1/2" long for my flex pipe to hook up to right around the center. I cut (2) 4 3/4" holes in the top at the ends and welded my 5" turnout stacks to it. then I cut (2) pieces of that 6" tubing into 12" long pieces and put them under the big tubing so it wouldn't sit right on the bed.
I'll try to post some pics of it if i can. I'm going to sometime run 4" from up around the motor, because i'm only running 2 1/2" exhaust under it currently. I don't have a muffler on it either. It sounds like a big block right now, but it sounds pretty good, i think.
i have a couple pics of it in my gallery, i can't post them here.
I have a 4-5'X5" stack on mine (can't remember the height off-hand). I have the 3" exhaust going about 3" into the bottom of the stack, and then a glass-pack muffler after that. The end of the "muffler" is about 3" shy of being able to see it in the stack.
The stack has nothing to do with the actual exhaust. But doing it this way I realized that even after driving all day, the stack is ALMOST warm. It acts as a heat shield. Now I'm not afraid to haul sawdust in the bed or discoloring the stack.
We just finished putting the stack on my brothers 03 Superduty. We bought all of the parts from the local big truck parts store. We used a 4" 90 that got connected to his exhaust with flex pipe. Then we ran that into a 4" Y-Pipe out to 4" 90's on each side of the bed. 4"-5" adapters off the 90's to the 5" chrome stacks. All of the pieces not including the stacks was around $250.00. The stacks came off my Peterbilt. All of the pieces are made by Grand Rock. You can find them all of the net. Just search for "Grand Rock exhaust"
ok thanks i havent got to mess with it much. Dad keeps finding stuff for me to do lol. Its got true duals and im gona keep them on it its got 2 1/2 inch pipe now im not gona put 3" on it now but i will eventually could some of you post some pics? Thanks justin.
