i am about to replace the stock exhaust and header and was interested to know if anybody had exceptionaly good performance from a particular header brand/exhaust setup. I was told that straight dual exhaust was the way to go behind a heddman header; does anything work batter that that? If it makes any difference i am planning to run a clifford 4bbl intake and a holley 390 sometime in the future. i am looking the best match for hosepower/torque and still retain good gas mileage.

The 240 in my '65 Ford is set up as pretty much as you are planning, with a Heddman header and Offenhauser intake w/ 390 Holley. I havent tried any other setup, so I cant really give a good comparison, but the setup works well. I have duel 26 inch glass packs. The only problem I have had is one of the pipes from my header was rubbing on the frame, so I had to cut a small notch in the frame. My mileage is fairly good. I changed the gearing recently, so I dont have recent mileage guesses, but I was getting around 12 mpg in town and 19 highway mpg.
