Fast question. Our old choke design (F250-360-1975) basically had the heat tube fall apart. It's that nice heat riser tube that looks like a mini brake line wrapped in a insulation cloth. (about a foot long). Whatever it was connected to? Is long sense gone...While it does have a flare end? The other half of the connection is MIA.
I'd like to install an electric "heater" type choke. The black cover appears to be the same size and shape as used by the single wire electric type.
Is this a possiblity? Because I haven't a clue as to what or where that other end was supposed to connect to. (a shield maybe on the exhaust manifold? But if it's that? It's long sense gone)
The heat riser comes out of the manifold and into the choke cover. Im not exactly sure how yours is set up because mine is on a 300. The electric should just bolt right on in place of the heat one. I used a cable one one mine, just because thats what I had.
They sell the replacement heat riser tube kit at most auto parts stores as well, Motormite or Help used to make them. One end is flared for the carb and the other end is just the tube itself, it slid into a hole in the manifold.
Well, at least I have a couple of options. I still need to figure out how the old one mounted however. As it was hanging out attached to nothing--looks like someone bent it wayyyyyy up.
One end is attatched to the carb and the other end simply slides in the intake manifold. You should have a 3/16" hole there for it.
Well, I'll be back over at the folks place for Christmas tomorrow. I'll pop the hood and see if I can figure out where it's supposed to go. Considering the amount of leaves I've vacuumed off the intake? It should make finding it easier.
Yup, the one on ours was worked on by Mickey, Goofy, and Donald. Picture that entire part---bent to almost a long letter 'S'...just flopping over the valve cover pointed to heaven knows where. LOL. And ya know it was bent by someone that didn't know better, as the whole thing has no rhyme or reason to the bends? Nothing bent to fit 'pro' around the valve cover--just pulled out like some demented child trying to un-slinky a slinky.
I think we'll just go with the electric choke after the Christmas week is over with. All things being equal? It looks a heck of a lot easier with just one wire, and adjustments.
