I don't see why you couldn't use it. I would say also get the cats as well, and then see if a muffler shop will put of a high flow convertor for you. You'll notice some more power from the high flow convertor.
I'd like to know, when you get your split manifold, what is the inside diameter. Also the inside diameter of the old log manifold. I was told by someone at Clifford Performance that the manifold (even the split) is plugged up with only something like 1/2-inch inside diameter. Even so, the split should perform better than the log--that's why Ford switched to it, but maybe you would want to take it in to a shop and have it opened up a bit and polished for better flow? Regardless, the manifold is only about one foot of the exhaust system and with larger piping after it the performance should be much better.
