Hello, Im new and all and I have a question. I have a 2004 F150 5.4l and when you touch the gas pedal, there is a 1/2 second delay from when you touch the gas to when the rig moves. Is this a common issue on these new trucks? Is there a chip out there to eliminate this delay? Any help will be appreciated.
kd4crs, with the evolution, the lag is still there correct? I assume you can't get as quick of a responce, like the old Throttle linkages. Now that I know it can be cured, Ill have to start reading into chips.

Drive By Wire strategies are the reason for the delay. A lot of flash tuners address this issue. So when the driver asked for more throttle they get it

I have had a Diablosport Predator tuner and used it with my red 04, my white 06 and now the beige 04 (see my gallery). While doing a dyno tune on my 06 I learned that the delay is deliberately built into the throttle programming and is called a "traction delay". When my dyno guy did my custom tune he simple took out the traction delay.
I know most people on here are Evolution promoters, but I truly believe the Predator is a better tuner. I have noticed they are now around the $300 mark in the States. I paid about $550 for mine and I still consider it one of the best automotive investments I ever made.
After all that I still cannot say that I have an instant response when I hit the throttle. It takes a little time for a 6000 pound beast to get some momentum!! We are not driving some little compact car that only weighs a ton.
My current beige 04 has a sticker under the hood that says it has been reflashed. Can't say how it is without the tuner as I immediately installed the 87 octane tune when I picked it up. I do think that the 4.10 gears help a little as well.

My 06 xlt had this problem, I did the gas pedal reset. Do a search, can't remember, I think you turn key to on but don't start then push pedal to floor? Anyway it fixed my issue. Worth a try.

Im curious about the gas pedal reset, does anyone know for sure?
Here's what you need to do to recalibrate (reset) you accelerator. I have used this successfully many times with my truck.

The way I understand it, your accelerator can get out of sync with the TPS (Throttle position sensor, on the throttle body). By preforming the above mentioned procedure, you resynchronize your accelerator to the throttle body. This is the way that I understand it, if I am off base, please someone step in...
Anyway, It doesn't hurt the truck to try it. I printed off the steps the first time that I tried it myself -- took the printout to the truck, did it, and it made a big difference. Now beings my truck sits unused a lot, I find that from time to time I have to do it again. But It always seems to work, for me at least.
