I found a complete 300 motor laying in a guys barn. he said it runs just has a knocking to it. I can get it for 50 bucks? How hard is it to buil one of these motors in a garage? I do have experience with engine rebuilding and what not, just not the tools. I'm debating if it's worth it. Cause i'm goign to need a new motor soon!
Personally, I'd probably go for it. If you can't hear it run then you are definitely taking a chance, but for $50 you wouldn't be out too much - plus if it's a complete motor, you're most likely gauranteed to find $50 worth of extra parts if the block is cracked and you can't use the motor after all.
For $50, buy it and rebuild it. What a deal, especially if it's complete. Think about it, you could just pull the exhaust manifold off and sell it on ebay for $50, let alone the rest of the parts. (That is if you decide to scrap it.)

I have got to agree with this. My Bronco 300 was completely free, (abandoned in a field) and yes, it's definitely a fun, but costly project!
