no start

on the way to work this morning my truck ('96 5.0) died out of nowhere. it died like i had turned off the key myself and it wont start back. my first thought was the ignition coil, so i picked up a new one and had no luck.

i pulled one of the plugs and it doesnt look like im getting any fire.
the distributor cap and rotor look good so at this point i dont know what it could be.

any ideas?

when it shut off did the lights on the dash come on or was they all off??

hmmm im not sure. but i did find it odd when the spedomoter went down to 0 and back up to however fast i was goin

when it shut off, if the lights on the dash didnt come on i would say its in the switch.. do you ever go to start it and the lights not come on??

If you take it to a parts store I believe they can test it. There was a few threads on this.

brought it to autozone and sure enough, it was bad. grabbed a new one and it started right up.
it ran kinda bad at first and was throwing a good bit of white smoke (maybe from all the cranking yesterday?) but its all good now!
