Hello everyone.I havent been in here for a while,I parked my truck for a while, cause I bought an 02 mustang gt.Winter is almost here in New England, and its time to drive the truck.I have no heat except to the defrost. Its not vaccum.Theres a vaccum line that goes through the firewall and is attached to an actuator located on the blower box passenger side.Well, this actuator moves an arm inside that box.My arm broke on top.I got a new one last year but when i pulled the old one out and put the new one in it just flopped around in there.Has anyone had to repair anything like this?I'm assuming that i need to get into that "box",but it doesnt look fun!Any feedback on how to fix this prob would be appreciated. Thanks
The lever that goes into the box.It seems like the lever that goes into the blower box is like a flapper or something. It seems to me that simething holds it in place.Like it directs the flow of air coming out.My heat was fine until this lever broke and i pulled it out

Now the blower is working fine but the heat is not coming out anywhere. Its like its blocked or something!!
The damper in the engine compartment is for the fresh-air / recirc. Don't think a failure here would prevent heat, just may have moisture control problems inside the cab if stuck on the recirc position.
Suggest you've got a problem with one of the other actuators inside the cab - vacuum leak, bound-up damper, or failed actuator.
The temperature control is done via cable instead of vacuum. If the air is not hot, suggest to inspect whether the clamps holding the cable sheath have slipped, a good sign of proper adjustment is if you hear a 'thunk' of the damper door closing when the control is slid to its extreme positions.
The glovebox is easy to remove, a pop-out plastic rivet and a tab, and gives you a pretty good view of the HVAC box. The panel/defrost should be somewhere in the glovebox opening. The floor/defrost actuator should be visible, IIRC, more towards the center portion of the HVAC box, positioned to the driver side of the panel / defrost actuator.
I have hot air.The cab does kinda warm up a lil,Ihear the blower doin its job but it isnt coming in the way it should. When i move theswitch to defrost, floor, panel,it does nothing. As far as the thump you were talking about. It reminds me that for a while in the summer when it was windy even with the truck off i could hear the wind catching somethind down by the pass floor opening and thumping shut. The wind was actuallyopening and shutting this flap
Sounds like the flapper door hinge is broken (the hinge is just a weakened area of the door). Below is a link that may help. It's not real hard to fix, it took me about 1/2 day but very little work. Most of the time was running around looking for a hinge, new nuts and bolts, screws and speed nuts to replace everything with.
Well,I went out to the truck.I took out the glove box.I looked underneath the glove box.Underthere was a vaccum line(forget the color),I unhooked from an actuator and heat started pouring out the defrost.Nothing else works though, just defrost.
Defrost is the default for when the Vac goes so at least you can defrost. Looks like the doors are working if it defaulted. There might be some other ones that are broke.
