I posted years ago if people did not lock the hood of the car, don't bother with fancy wiring or PATS. I guess the guy spilled the beans on PATS. Now, everyone knows how easy it is.
Spill what beans? The criminals have known this for years. As the article says, for every new security system they put out, criminals find a new way around it. The problem is, most law abiding citizens do not know this. This is for thier information to help protect themselves and do things maybe to make it harder for criminals to jack their car.
My truck is very secure, youd be suprised how fast nice vehicles with crappy paint are overlooked by theives.
There are the thieves that will steal your car and the meth head tweakers who will steal the 85 cents you got in you change cup. The later do not care how bad your crappy paint job is but will steal anything "they" deem of value.
You'd think an old or ugly car would be safe, but no. My daughter had a crappy old Blazer. Some jerk stole it -- amazingly enough, they got it back.
The guy was apparently a total criminal. He got busted ripping some stuff off from Fleet Farm. The cops checked the Blazer and called my kid.
Story doesn't end there. My son in law was going to testify against him -- only they let him out on bail, and he neglected to return. He had given them his brother's DL, and that record looked pretty clean. After the fingerprint stuff came back, it was a different story. But, he was gone by then.
There are some real jerks in this world. This guy apparently made a living at 'petty' crime. Probably liked swiping beaters because they seldom get noticed.
when I was driving my 86 cj7 on a daily basis and lived in an apartment in a not so good part of town,I never kept anything of value in the jeep(top and doors were off 99% of the time). the gas gauge didn't always work,so I kept a 2 gallon gas can in the jeep. One morning I came out of the apt and went to the jeep. the gas can(empty) was gone along with about $2 worth of change and my $20 cheopo sparkomatic radio which didn't work because it had gotten wet so many times from rain in the jeep without the top on. I just laughed and at that point realized people will steal ANYTHING!!
I don't know if people would want to steal my F100...entire dash is torn apart. But hey, people will steal anything.
It's the Cutlass I worry about, those seem to get stolen a lot. How far would a thief get with a Cuttie that runs on five cylinders?
I generally lock my doors unless I'm just running in and out. I never leave the engine on (I'm really tight with gas and don't trust emergency brakes). If I have anything of value, I put it in the trunk/toolbox or under the dash where it's darker...just a little security. I work too hard on my vehicles for them to get stolen.
