Trivia question

Last night my friend and I were having a discussion about trucks and one of the things was what the "F" in F-150 stands for. I say it stands for "Fleetline", and he says it means "Ford" (which makes no sense to me). Does anybody know for sure?

It actually stands for Ford, like the C1500 was for chevy and the t100 toyota… and so on.

FORD.

I think other companies are/have dropped the C-K-T + digits and are using goofy names now

Sierra
Tundra
etc.etc.etc.

There was a very lengthy topic about this a year or two ago. Most people came to the conclusion that it did stand for "Ford"

I thought the old Ford trucks were called Fleetline and the vans were called Econoline and that is where the F-150,250... and E-150,250.. came from. Plus if the "F" stands Ford doesnt it seem redundant to call a truck the Ford Ford-150?
I see where the T=Toyota and C=Chevrolet but how does K=General Motors (GMC)?

yeah i agree that the "F" standing for Ford doesnt make sense, cuz like LastSplash said, that makes it the Ford Ford 150, maybe it has to do with the old styling, like they came out with the model A, and model T etc, maybe the truck model name has something to do with that, idk, im just thinking out loud here

Well after farting around on the web all I have found out is that the "F" designator came out in 1948. And I was mistaken about ford truck being called "Fleetline" it was "frieghtliner", Fleetline trucks came with a girly bowtie on them.

I don't think it really stands for anything, I've never seen conclusive evidence as to it standing for a certain word, just made sense that Chevy's had the C series trucks and Dodge had D series trucks so Ford would have F series.

It is Ford. The Mercury line of these trucks were the M-100, M-250, etc.

I think it's just a letter. I'm sure at first it stood for something, but now it just stands for....well....F.

ok,you wanted it so here it is.Actually, the first Model A Ford, was the first production Ford car model that was introduced by Henry Ford in 1903. It was followed by the Model B, C, D, E, and up through the alphabet to the Model T from 1909 through 1927. The "second" and most popular Model A was produced from 1928 through 1931..
