I just aquired a 1970 Econoline with a 240, which I think has been converted to automatic, from stick, I have a couple of questions not being familiar with the 240/300 six:there is NO down shift arm on the trans.should there be? and if so what would the downshift rod attach to on top? an arm on the carb, like a V8 setup? I know 6 cylinders in Mustangs use strange looking linkage to hook up the downshift rods.
Next it looks as if they have "T"'d the ONLY vacuum line comming from the manafold right under the carb for vacuum for the modulator on the trans, I don't think the trans is getting enough vacuum from the line which the PCV valve is in as well, is there somewhere else I can get vacuum from for one or the other? THANKS!! -Supercab
i had this setup in a 54 ford pickup, and i used a cable to do transmission kickdown.
some c4's came with a kickdown lever that was longer and had a hole in top and bottom, allowing you to "pull" the lever instead of push it. this allowed you to use a cable. i hooked it to linkage using a schwinn bicycle brake cable and some brass cable clamps like those that are used to ground electrical boxes on houses!! it worked great.
a company named lokar makes cables for some applications for street rods. youcan find them on web or in magazines.
