first time poster, please excuse my inexperience with the ford platform. picked up a 97 expedition for towing purposes. the truck has intermittent abs issues, the code says abs module failure. my question is does ford uses the same module across all the different platforms? or is the expedition's abs module specific to expedition only. been looking online for a rebuild unit, but i see mostly units for explorer.
thanks in advance for all your help, look forward to gaining knownledge from all of you.
I have had the same problem for years, except mine is intermittant, and I have yet to repair it. In my research the module is expensive and an intensive repair. I actually had a mechanic tell me he would not repair it because of his lack of experience with them.
Seems to me (if Im remembering correctly) there is a special bleeding proceedure for replaceing the module.
As for the rest, it has been a long time since Ive looked at it. I just leave it and remember the ABS does not work.
I suppose it is possible that your sensors could be malfunctioning also, Im not sure of the codes. I found that my driver side speed sensor wires had rubbed through by the tire because they were too loose. Still didnt fix my problem, but I have not checked my other side.
OH, as for your question, I believe it was only the F150 and the Expo that were the same. Still, this is only from a foggy memory.
Good luck, and check back if you get it repaired. I would like to get mine working again.
The rear ABS sensor is famous for going out. Mine was bad for a year...not always, but most of the time I would have the ABS light on. It's really cheap (about $25 bucks) and easy to replace yourself.
I had the dealer check it out and do the repair..but paid a couple of hundred bucks. In hindsite, I wish I had just tried swapping out the sensor myself and saving $200 bucks.
thanks for the replies. I already replaced the rear sensor after searching thru the archives and found that was a common issue, and for 20 dollars it was worth a shot. I might give modulemaster a call since they were able to fix a bad module on my audi. Since that wasn't exactly a cheap fix, I'm just trying to figure out the most economic fix for this problem.
