Over a year ago my ABS module went (dianosed by a Ford mechanic) but I never bothered fixing it. I'm not a big fan of ABS so I just lived with the light being on. Well, now the truck is my wife's daily driver so I picked a used module/pump and plan on replacing it.
Has anyone ever done this before? Do I need the Ford ABS troubleshooting computer to cycle the ABS pump on to bleed it properly? Can I just bleed it normally if I'm real patient?
Looking at the replacement pump and the location of the existing pump it doesn't look like a bad job to actually remove and reinstall but I'm worried about the bleeding.
If you are replacing only the ABS module (electronics), there is no need to bleed anything.
If you replace the HCU (Hydaulics Control Unit), then it will require bleeding using the appropriate Ford diagnostic tool or a suitable substitute if one happens to exist.
