I have been running the SCT hybrid tune for the last few weeks or so and I love the all of the power. I now have a serious turbo problem though and I don't know what it is. It sounds like a rattle snake after I shut the car off. As if the bearings are shot. There is also a continuous noise when running that is noticeable. The truck still feels like it has power though. So I decided to take it over to the dealership where I bought the truck just to get an opinion from someone. This is not the dealership where I get my service however. One of the guys came out and listened and said I definitley have a tubro issue, but he didn't think that was all I had. He was revving it in neutral and the motor didn't sound steady all the way through the rev range. The next thing out of his mouth is, "i see you have an after market exhaust." I told him I installed it to lower my EGT's for towing. He said I removed the back pressure and told me that Ford would not warranty any work on my vehicle. I pretty much laughed at him and told him he had no clue what he was talking about. Either way I left there pissed off, with a turbo noise, and a little scared about my warranty.
Does anyone else have experience with this type of noise coming from the turbo?
Oh and I recently had a injector and fuel regulator changed.
I am also running 15-40 rotella
Thanks in advance
Dan
You can remove the intake filter and tube, reach in and pull on the compressor wheel to see if there is end play. Also spin it by hand and it should be very smooth. Look at the compressor wheel and see of all the fins are ok. Oh, the argument about back pressure from the exhaust is one that has been beat to death in this forum. You can find threads on it, and the consenses is the MBRP exahuast does not cause any problem and it does improve on lowering EGT's. Just find another dealer that knows what they are doing.
After removing the SCT tune, it seems that the problem has subsided for now. I had an appointment at the dealer, but the noise was gone. I am going to put the tune back in and see if the noise comes back.
