It's almost mind boggling when you think of what all the WWI survivors have probably seen and done in their lives and also when you think that what they have done has helped to shape the lives that we live today. It's sad to them go but everybody's time comes at one point or another. May he and all the others who sacrificed for us RIP.

This particular gentleman was a teacher. I'd be willing to bet that if you sat down with him and just asked him to start talking about his life he would talk mainly about teaching and students, not about war and his service in it. Maybe it is just my experience but everyone I know that was in WWII, Korea, and Vietnam volunteer very little about it and will only talk about it (if at all) only if pressed.

Most of my teachers were only teachers to avoid service in Vietnam - they didn't have much to say that interested me even then.

You're right though, this guy probably had some great stories to tell if he had ever chosen to.
