I am thinking of getting a 2004 6.0. It is a great price and I know the owner, so I have already got the oasis report. It had a bad turbo, and a new one got put in. It does make me wonder why the first one went out why wont the next one go out too.
Any way I was wondering if there was some tell tale signs I should look for that mean bad news. I will be looking for oil drips and the such but wondered if you guys new any special places to look or anything specific.
There were some turbo changes made because of various issues early on. One of the signs of a "problematic" 6.0L is usually a slew of repetitive repairs. As the Oasis report came back clean, in this regard, I would say that you are likely in the clear.
Look it over in detail & get a good test drive in--covering various speeds & terrains. If nothing bad comes out of all of that, I would say go for it.
My 2004 was a Lemon. I had the Transmission rebuilt at 14K and at 15K. Injectors (white smoke at start up), EGR (Turbo choke), Glowplugs and wire harness at 5K. My Truck was in the shop more than it was on the road. I would not touch a 2003 or 2004 6.0L at all costs. I own a 2005 and I love it. Well the Transmission went down this month because of a bearing failure, Ford fixed it for free.
