I have about 7 trucks right now. All are 56-71 FORD trucks. I like all types of trucks, not just Ford. I am just in love with the 1956s and now with the 1971 sport custom love it too.
If you need a vehicle-a truck is the way to go! I pull car-trailer/camp/tow/haul mulch,etc/trips are great with a cap on the back and a sleeping bag and my dog by my side. Can you do all this in a car? The truck is the esential truck for the manand woman who wants to do it all. Cars in my mind are MUSCLE CARS--THAT IS MY KIND OF CAR!! No cavalier or escort for me---give me a truck and I can see the country and help out a neighbor, and go to the swap meet. Bill

I just love my 1970 F-250 4x4 "Highboy". It is completely original except for the 2 1/2" dual flowmaster series 30 exhaust and the tires!! The 390 in it gets around 11 mpg in town, going down the highway, coasting in neutral with a strong tailwind, etc! A lot of people here in Cody, Wyo drive newer vehicles, especially the kids. I taught a young friend of mine to drive in it. I handed him the key and climbed into the passenger seat. He got in and couldn't find the ignition switch. I told him to look above his left knee and he gave me a goofy look, as if to say "strange place for an ignition switch". As he had never driven a vehicle with manual tranny, he started off in granny gear. We were on a two-track road out in the country, and when he had to make a pretty good turn, he started complaining that I should have my power steering looked at. I told him he should have eaten his wheaties for breakfast, and that's the reason for such a huge steering wheel. Speaking of steering wheel, he just hates the horn ring! But I really like the drum brakes, manual steering and tranny, the old Dana 21 divorced transfer case, single point ignition, pizza-cutter tires and what-not that makes a classic truck a classic truck. And the original maroon/white tu-tone paint is still in really good shape. If I can get myself into the 21st century and get a digital camera, I will try to figure out how to post some pictures.

Hey 70highboy--how much do you think it will cost for a dual exhaust like yours on my 71? I am contemplating it,and thought I would ask and 2 1/2'' seems big. thanks

Well walfords, 3 years ago it cost me $375 for the whole system from manifolds back, using the series 30 mufflers and stainless pipe. 2 1/2" actually brought that engine to life, as before it had junk 2" duals with wal-mart special glasspacks. I now have stronger low-end torque and I get about 3-4 mpg better gas mileage. Not to mention the sound!! I was the first one that I know of in Cody to install this system, and since the a number of other trucks and a car have tried to copy it, but those chevys and dodges can't compare with an old FE. Incidentally, I heard that the series 30 flowmasters were discontinued, but the series 40 sounds nearly the same.

Nothing wrong with a good old ford I had the same stuff happen at my high school first car was "flame suit on" a 1968 chevelle it was pretty built but primered me and my brother and dad worked on it it was pushing about 410 RWHP didn't have no shiny paint job but there were a few kids who liked it and alot of "hunk of ****" comments here and there this was about 6 years ago by the way... One day I ran into some kids in the parking lot kid with a new SRT-4 and a kid with a 300zx twin turbo they were talking all this hot **** about how my car was "weak and a hunk of crap" even though the new 350 small block ran better then their crap tuned cars... I told the kid in the 300zx My chevelle would blow the doors of his rice burner we settled it by racing at the local strip out in the country marked 1/4 mile and boy did the comments stop after I blew the doors off of both those cars... Long story not much of a point but I have always like classic cars I still get comments about my 1970 f100 good and bad but dont give a **** really because theres something that just feels so right about working on a classic american car not some new rice burner daddy got you... I say rock on with you're truck these other people that are talking crap probably cant even change their own oil... OH and I also forgot to add with these kids with the 300zx and SRT-4 the kid with the SRT-4 ended up getting a 1969 chevelle!!! haha and the kid with the 300zx totaled it and got another rice burner... all the kids were pretty much rich the kid that got the 1969 chevelle didn't talk down ever again he had a 327 in it and from there on tried to be buddy buddy with me its funny how stuff works out...
