Anyone had an problems with their tranny in their vans?
I have an 05 E250 HD 5.4L and had the overdrive light come on and start flashing this morning.
I just had left the house and was getting on the interstate and I get in the fast lane and start building up speed to around 65 and the van started to what felt like it started spitting and spuddering. Well I noticed a light came on and it was my overdrive light, It then proceeded to flash and what it was doing was it was trying to shift into overdrive but something prevented it from doing so. So I had to limp the van all the way (the 25-30 miles) to the office to turn in my paper work and then take it to the shop. So now I am sitting at the shop near my office waiting to see what is going on. It is due for a full service (ie. oil change, fuel filter, tranny service, collant service, ect....).
Im hoping it just needs a tranny service or if something is really wrong with it, they go ahead and replace the tranny so it wont cause anymore problems. Or an even better option on my behalf they give me a brand new van with all the options (power windows & locks, ect...) 8) But I know that isnt gonna happen cause my work is cheap, lol
Anybody have any Ideas?
They drove it and of course it didnt do it for them but they pulled the history up and it showed that the solenoid that engages the overdrive had faulted so they are gonna replace that (if they can get the part) and it should be good to go
There are two types of solenoid failures. A "circuit fault" and a "stuck on/off". The difference is, the first one the PCM detects an electrical fault. The solenoid is stuck high or low. This is either a wiring problem or an actual solenoid failure. The second "stuck on/off" indicates that the PCM *detected* no electrical faul (there could be one) but there was no effect when the PCM activated the solenoid (the transmission didn't shift).
Clearly, the circuit problem is electrical and may be repaired by replacing the solenoid. The second, the solenoid may or may not be good. It could be "stuck" or it could be working fine and there is an inteneral hydraulic or mechanical problem that is preventing the shift. Replacing the solenoid may/maynot fix the problem.
The dealer will most likely replace the solenoid and assume that is the problem.
Thanx. They accually wanted to try and flush the tranny and see if that fixed it cause they said that it could have gotten dirty or something.
So we shall see I guess, lol
*Update Again*
Problem came back last night on my way home from work. I let the boss know and he told me not to worry about it right now cause he cant afford to lose me again right now. Well all I know is if the tranny does decide to go, I will be out for a few days while it is getting fixed, lol.
Anybody got any Ideas on this?
I got my truck back from the shop last night and they said that the Shift soilenoid 4 went bad and they replaced it. I havent driven it much to see if the problem is still there but I will be putting some miles on it today and I will give you another update either this evening or sometime this weekend.
**Another Update**
Problem is not fixed after replacing the Soilenoid. I have to take it back to the shop and see what they say now. That means I have to do without my van for another several days.
Okay, I am getting my Van back 2maro. They had to replace the Tranny to fix the problem. I think it will finally fix it and I will know for sure 2maro when I pick it up.
