The 460 comes with a E4OD, I thought FE had the same bolt pattern as big blocks? Saw a 428 CJ with a Top loader in a 77 F-250, that truck would roll. A real chevy eater.
Nope on the 385 series overdrives being a direct bolt in on the FE series engines. But there were manual overdrives in the 70s in the large trucks that the FE was put into.
FE engines do not have the same bolt/bellhousing as a 460, or any other ford for that matter. I think you should be able to get some help from transmissionadapters.com. Ive seen just about any trans adapted to the FE engines, 5/6 speed manuals, aod, and even a 62 galaxie with a 700-R4 bolted to its 390 in a custom rodder mag.
What is this FE going in? March performance makes a complete billet FE serpentine accessory drive kit (pulleys and brackets) that can include A/C and power steering. I dont imagine its cheap though.
Whoops! 1995 F-250, 351W (266k miles with a wrist pin knock), E40D, 3.55 rear. I have another 351 lined up, but I walked by my ole 390 just laying there and remembered how GOOD it sounded and how well it towed. Then I had a couple beers and it seemed like a good idea! If I could reasonably work out the front of the motor and have OD, that would rock!
