Probably not... It could probably do okay on the low speed (taurus fan has 2 speeds) but I would highly suggest you upgrade before running it on high speed. I've got the 95amp alternator and the taurus fan and my volt gauge takes a pretty large dip when I flip on the high speed... I can't imagine I'm doing very good to my alternator, I seldom use the high speed because of it...

Skan, time to update to a 130amp and a 2 gauge charge cable! That's what I'm doing even before I start my e-fan conversion.

It's on my list of things to do. But I seldom even power the fan on anyways, especially in this cold weather. I don't think I've needed it more than 4 or 5 times since I installed it 4 or 5 months ago. I'll get around to the alternator swap eventually.

you could also just order a one wire 150A from summit $175.90 deleiverd Summit Part number (PWM-8-47140) THis is what I have in my 88 mustang. I am running a 17 in electric fan and 2200W sterio system with no problems.

If you want to get the Ford 3G 130A alternator, it can be had at Fordfuelinjection.com:

As well as any accessories (a charge cable is a must for this swap):

Not a hard swap. Remove the stock fan and shroud, bolt pulley back on. Mount fan to radiator--- theres a few ways to do this: either fab up your own brackets or zip tie it to the radiator using a fan mount kit... I used the latter option and its working great. The hardest part of the swap is the wiring, you will need a bit of electrical know-how, including how to use relays (several of them if you want to use both speeds) and diodes and a temperature operated switch.

Junior unfortunately I can't afford it If you wanna go on a road trip to Cali I'd be MORE than happy to swap the e-fan in for you

Dhag if you need any help with the wiring just ask, I got pretty good with those electrical circuits through installing my e-fan This is the circuit that I created and ended up using:

I don't expect you to understand it, but you can see that it does require a bit of know-how depending on what you want. I used a series of 3 relays and a temp switch, along with a 3-way on-off-on switch in the cab, all hooked up so that I could have fan come on automatically at a certain temp (low speed), or come on automatically if the AC is turned on (high speed), or manually turn it on high speed via the switch in the cab. The hardest part for me was not to create a circuit that worked, but a circuit that was SAFE and wouldn't overload my relays wires. The one that you see above was about my 10th attempt and it's flawless

Here's what my finishing product looks like:

Note: the Taurus fan DOES NOT fit on the 300 I6 engine. Don't even try, we've had other members try it and get sorely disappointed.

dad is a mechanic by trade and i have just picked up alot from him and just some common sense so yea i know what you are talking about. I just wasnt sure what the draw on the fans and if i would be able to get by with 80 amp alt for know until it goes out. but when we finally get a chance to do it may have some other questions along with it.

Chris,

I'm really impressed with the wiring diagram you drew up, hope you don't mind but I copied it for future reference. (I figured you posted it for us to use?)

I may add that setup to my plow truck, upgrading to a dual battery setup to power everything at the same time.
It works fine with one battery now but the extra draw the electric fan would put on the system would be to much for one battery I would think.
I'd want to run the fan while I plow to keep the tranny fluid cool.
I may just put a smaller fan on the fluid coolers, sandwiching it between the two. I'll have to think on it some.

Anyway great job, thanks for sharing that with us!

Dan
