my buddy runs 2 stroke oil in his fuel i tried it it seems to make a differnce in power like holding hills better it would make sence it would add more heat to the fuel but im not sure.. just guessing does anyone else do this???
Two cycle oil is a heavier oil, so it contains more BTU's per gallon than diesel does.
But more BTU's per gallon can be a bad thing if you go to to far.
6.9 engines already have rear cylinder head bolt issues because of oil sucked through the CDR and being burnt in the rear cylinders.
The extra BTU's are what raises the head, stretches the head bolts and causes head gasket failure.
More BTU's also mean higher EGT's are possible....no scratch that... higher EGT is almost certain.
Back in the old days I ran into a few fuel stations that sold #3 diesel in the summer.
Price was cheap, power and MPG was great.
But the extra paraffin made it gel very easy at rather warm temps.
My worst nightmare with gelled fuel was the result of #3 and a 70 degree temp drop in 12 hours out in Kansas.
dave? soo basecally its a easy mpg raise and power??? im also runnin power service... but 7.3 dont have that problem does it( head bolts stretch sence there bigger) ??? i mean if hotter btu means higher egt's i would just still keep in under 1250 .... and be fine righT?/??
Keep it a bit below 1250, I stay under 1200 most of the time.
Also remember, to much of a good thing is still bad.
There is only 1/16" difference in the head bolts.
What a 6.9 can do with oil vapor could happen on a 7.3 with oil in the fuel.
When you start blending your own fuel, you are in uncharted territory.
I use 1oz to 1 gal of fuel. I do it every fill up. I use the cheap WalMart 2 stroke stuff. Like $8 a gallon. Thats not enough to hurt a thing as far as that matters. It does help lube your IP LOL.
I run a 6.9 with a ATS Turbo. It does seam to run a little quieter then it did before. And I have notice a little increase in mileage. Also its cold here as well. So just a little help in the anti gel department.....

Isn't that ultra-lo-sulfur crap supposed to pose a lubricity problem? I'm lucky, my local farmers' coop still sells the pre-07 stuff, but probly not for long. But I'd think pitching in a bit of 2-stroke oil would help keep stuff greasy.
2-stroke oil is pretty light stuff really, I can't imagine a couple ounces in a gallon of diesel would affect its heat content and viscosity much.
I buy it in the small bottles from wal-mart and split the bottle between the tanks so that each receives half. I didn't really care about any extra power or mpg.......I'm just trying to help lube the fuel system and figured just a bit of 2-stroke shouldn't do any harm.
