Performance Head Rebuild

Hey,
I am redoing my engine that I built that ran great but am looking for more. I have all the goodies on my '86 300 I-6. I added a Clifford intake, headers, 270 degree cam, 450 cfm Edelbrock carb., and milled the head .050". But I want to make my head breath more. SO i am looking for suggestion to get this thing to work better (like bigger valves, etc.). I am using the same head that has been milled. This is something I haven't really done and would love to know what I am taking about when I talk to the machine shop dude so any help is appreciated!

Performance Head Rebuild

LAST EDITED ON 23-Jan-01 AT 09:27 PM (EST)[p]I am currently building a 300. I have clifford intake, Hooker headers, Delta RV 266 cam, Carter 575 cfm carb and custom head. I do not have the motor assembled but I can tell you what I had done. First I ported the head using 'how to books' for a Chevy 350 and Ford 5.0 as a guideline. I then eased all the sharp edges in the combustion chamber and polished the surface. This added one cc of volume to each chamber. The head then went to the machine shop. I had OEM valves installed after having the bowls done. They removed a lot of material from behind the valve. They told me this would be worth 35 hp easy. I then had Chevy corvette springs installed. This was the easiest way to up the spring pressure and allowable lift. I finished it off with a 1.725 rocker arm. I used a 9:1 piston but the compression will be slightly less due to the increased chamber volume. About using bigger valves, my machine shop told me the stockers were big enough. Big valves are for high revvers.
