The 37" wide rad is not as deep as the 31"(15½" vs 23¾",) and, actually has a good bit less surface area(573 sq" vs 736,) and costs more... BUT, you can make a few minor modifications to a gasser rad support and bolt it in. The 31" rad is the one that has the deeper core support, and is the reason that some plow brackets don't fit these trucks without a body lift or some significant modifications to the bracketry(Boss has this issue for sure.)
With that aluminum rad I could probably get away with no fan unless I was towing in the summer... As it is now I yank it for the winter... LOL
My Snoway would have been a problem if my radiator was any deeper.
As it is now the bracket is 2" below the bottom of the cradle, they touched before I put the body lift on.
All I can say about running an aluminum radiator is most heavy duty diesel antifreeze with SCA's are low silicate formulas.
The silicate is in antifreeze to protect the aluminum in modern cooling systems.
Since in the original form, the IDI had no aluminum in the cooling system, that was not an issue.
May be something to consider before ordering an aluminum radiator.
