I have a 86 5.0 bronco that runs very rough. It starts up great and does not idle, if it does idle and doesnt stall it revs up and down. When i give it gas it misses and loses power, it feels like the engine is missing and falls on its face. This started shortly after i put a fuel additive in it and ive ran at least 1/2 tank of gas since. i have changed the spark plug wires, dist. cap, new plugs with proper gap, checked all cylinder pressure(128-134 on all), fuel rail pressure(constant 30), fuel filter changed, and disconnected battery to try to reset the idle. I also ran a cleaner through the fuel rail but the pressure is good. ideas would be great on fixing my bronco.
Confused!!
Does it have a Throttle position sensor? I'm not familiar with that year (Mine is a 96) but if it has one I'd replace it. That's just a guess I'm not a mechanic.
You need to get some codes off it ,the idle problem could be the IAC either it needs to be cleaned or replaced, how does it run if you hold a constant speed above idle.
What is the fuel pressure Koeo and koer and revved at about 2000rpm? What kind of
fuel additive did you use? And how long does the truck sit or had it sat before this
started? Try to unplug the IAC wire and start it, It should be barely running at about
500 rpm or so. Don't replace components without testing them first let us know what
happens and if you have a multimeter you can check everything and save alot of money.
I am fairly new with working on the bronco so bare with me. i looked into the iac and the only info i could find was for carbureted engines, mine is fuel injection. is there still an iac for this? when its at idle the preasure on the fuel rail is 30, when i bring the idle up or it starts to die it shoots to around 35. the fuel additive was to take the water out of the fuel because it was getting cold, and it was not setting for any period of time. thanks and keep ideas coming.

Yes I know its fuel injected its just like my 86 f-150 and have been there before that why I asked the ? I did.also you did not say how it will run at a steady speed!

Reason: added words
The IAC is the solenoid looking deal with the diamond shaped mounting plate and two
bolts. Take it off while holding the solenoid deal up spray the valve deal with plenty
of carb cleaner, Make the valve move twist it around to get all sides. You should be
able to tell when it is clean but don't be afraid to use a half can or so!! Do not let the
crudded up carb cleaner run into the solenoid deal and if you clean the TB take it off
or you may fry the TPS on the bottom of the TB!! Reinstall with rtv or three bond and
antisieze on the threads because it will need to be done again and you don't want the
\threads to sieze up.
Not that this is your problem, but this is really low. It's good that it's consistent, but a healthy engine will register much higher pressures. How many miles are on the motor?
